8tracks – solar flowers

This is the first 8tracks mix that I’ve made in while. A lot of it is music that I’ve been listening to over and over again for the past few months: Deerhunter, Atlas Sound, Arcade Fire, the Books. But also The Stranglers, whose 1981 album La Folie is something that I’ve been delving into a bit lately. The title track is about Issei Sagawa, who is a cannibal:

I got my record in the mail yesterday. Turns out that it’s a double album. Four songs on each side, 16 songs total. I guess it’s supposed to be “sprawling”? The songs literally take up more space on the vinyl than they need to?

Gosh.

(I’m still circling around the outskirts of this album.)

I looked up “elongated” in the thesaurus and it wasn’t listed. But if it was, there would be a picture of Joey Ramone next to it.

Maybe I should try alliteration instead: Joey lollygags lewdly on long lanky legs. Lovely!

Or similie: His legs are as long as his face is ugly. But, curiously, although he uses his greasy hair to cover his unsightly face, he exposes the freakishness of his legs like an exhibitionist, in his tight, patched punk rock jeans.

Joey, baby. Don’t get crazy.

What is he, anyway? Seven-foot-one? Skinny as a rail heroin additct wants to take me to the prom! All legs and hips and bangs.

Is he Howard Stern’s siamese twin, seperated, as they say, at birth? Is he the Hunch Back of Notre Dame? They tried to stetch him out on the rack, to remove his hump so that he could get the girl. But, oops! We pulled his legs too long! Taffy Quasimodo!

“Uhh, maybe he’ll recompress on his own.”

“Hey, I know. Let’s give him a guitar!”

Don’t worry, man. He’ll still get the girl.
